Gerald C. "Jerry" DeTurk, 83, of Fleetwood, passed away at home on September 4, 2017.
Born March 26, 1934 in West Reading, he was the son of the late Irene H. (Herbein) and H. Stewart DeTurk. His wife of 59 years, Jean K. (Delp) DeTurk, passed away on August 17, 2015.
Jerry worked for over 35 years for General Battery and Yuasa, Hyde Park as a supervisor in the assembly department. He also worked for Quaker Maid Kitchens, Leesport, as an assembler.
Jerry was very active in Lions Club International for over 50 years. He was District Governor for District 14P and also served as President of the Blandon Lions Club. He was past president of the Blandon Senior Citizens where he and his wife Jean were trip coordinators for many years. He was a member of Patriotic Order Sons of America Camp 68, Hyde Park for 61 years. He also was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Fleetwood where he had served on church council.
Jerry served his country honorably as a Sergeant First Class in United States Army. He was a 1952 graduate of Muhlenberg High School and loved collecting, especially Lions Club pins and badges from all over the world.
Jerry is survived by his sister, Barbara Ann DeTurk, Sinking Spring, his aunt, Barbara Ann (Keim) Faust, cousins Daryl L. Faust, Fleetwood and Suzette C. (Faust) Brandt, wife of Kevin Brandt, Newville, PA and Haley and Kylie Brandt.
Funeral Services for Jerry will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 11:00 am at Walbert Funeral Home & Cremation Services, PC, 14390 Kutztown Road, Fleetwood. A viewing will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Fleetwood Cemetery, Fleetwood.
