Mrs. Barbara S. (Schlegel) Miller

Mrs. Barbara S. (Schlegel) Miller, 98, of Wyomissing, formerly of Fleetwood, passed away on Monday, May 13, 2024, at The Highlands of Wyomissing.

Barbara was born October 25, 1925, in Reading Hospital, the daughter of the late Alfred and Elda (Schaeffer) Schlegel. She graduated from Fleetwood High School and Moravian College where she received a Bachelor of Science in medical technology.

After working 2 years at St. Joseph's Hospital in Reading, she was married to Kenneth W. Miller on September 10, 1949, in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Fleetwood. She then worked at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia while her husband completed his studies at the University of Pennsylvania Dental School. Barbara and Kenneth returned to Fleetwood where he opened his dental office. Barbara became a housewife and raised their three sons. She became active in the Women's Club of Fleetwood, serving as chair of various committees and president. She was instrumental in starting a community recycling program.

At. St. Paul's Lutheran, Barbara sang in the choir for many years, taught in and was superintendent of the Sunday School and Bible School. After the Millers moved to the Highlands, she sang in the chorus for many years and volunteered in various ways.

Barbara is survived by her three sons, Dr. Martin F. Miller, husband of Crystal K. (Meitzler) Miller, Thomas A. Miller, Esquire, husband of Barbara S. (Seebers) Miller, and Peter W. Miller, husband of Kimberley F. (Lynch) Miller. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Taryn Miller, Leslie Christman and her husband Jared, Emily Miller, Jessica Miller, Stephanie Miller, Sarah Miller, Matthew Spilker and his wife, Gina, Nicole Martin and her husband, Cory, and Bradley Spilker and his wife, Chandra, her great-grandchildren, Ella, Chase, Clare, Delaney, Madison, Jackson, Kennadi, Finn, Brooklyn, Ashlyn and Robert, and by her sister, Mary Jane Schofer, Wyomissing.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Dr. Kenneth W. Miller, on January 18, 2018, her brother, Frederick Schlegel, and her sisters, Lillian Walter, Julia Clemons, and Emma Webb.

Memorial Services for Barbara will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at 11:00 am at The Highlands at Wyomissing, 2000 Cambridge Ave, Wyomissing, PA. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. At the Highlands.

Private Inurnment will take place in the St. Paul's Union Church Memorial Columbarium, Fleetwood.
