Benjamin F. Lockhart, 90, of Richmond Twp, passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born April 3, 1926 in Evansville, he was the son of the late William P. and Edna M. Lockhart. Benjamin and his wife of 66 years, Marilyn (Schoedler) Lockhart, were married on July 7, 1950 in Fleetwood.
Benjamin served his country honorably and faithfully in the US Army during World War II. He was a sharpshooter and was deployed in the European Theatre where he was in charge of a gun crew of the 390 AAAW Self-Propelled Battalion. He was tasked with protecting combat elements and strategic areas from enemy aircraft and mechanized vehicles.
Benjamin worked as a polisher for Ennis Manufacturing, Reading and as an electrician in maintenance for Eastco Tool, Reading. He had also worked for Brentwood Industries, Reading. Benjamin was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Fleetwood and truly enjoyed fishing, shooting and traveling to Maine and Cape Hatteras.
In addition to the love of his life, Marilyn, Benjamin is survived by his two daughters, Melanie E. (Lockhart) Bendinsky, wife of Charles Bendinsky, Lavelle, PA and Patricia A. Lockhart Rodgers, wife of John E. Rodgers, Fleetwood. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Gregory, Danielle, Ryan, Ian, Laura and Christopher, his great grandchildren, Darian, Zachary, R.J. and Connor, and his Great Great Grandson, Aiden.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, William, James and Paul, and his sister, Helen.
Funeral Services and US Army Military Honors for Benjamin will be held privately by the family.
