Claude H. Ohlinger, 85, of Wernersville, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at Phoebe Nursing Center, Wernersville.
Born September 4, 1936 on the family farm in Penn Township, he was the son of the late Charles H. and Estella G. (Fisher) Ohlinger. His wife of 55 years, Marie E. (Gift) Ohlinger, passed away on April 23, 2021.
Claude served his country honorably and faithfully as a member of the United States Army.
Claude owned and operated Claude's Clip Joint in Leesport for 50 years. He was a member of Bern Reformed UCC where he served as deacon, elder, and sang in the choir for 67 years. He also helped with cooking and baking and was known as the Pie Maker, with his specialties being cheesecake, fruit pies and fastnachs. Claude was a 1954 graduate of Penn Bernville High School.
Claude was a member of the Blandon Lions Club for over 40 years, where he served as President and Secretary of the club and was honored as a Melvin Jones Fellow in 1999. He also cooked for the Lions and Lioness clubs for over 30 years. Claude also served as Board President for Bern Cemetery for many years.
Claude's family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at Phoebe Berks for the care they extended to him during his illness.
Claude is survived by his nephew, Warren Patterson, four great-nephews and five great nieces.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Marie, Claude was preceded in death by his sister, Mary P. Labe, his niece, Betty L. Miller Luckenbill and his nephew, Kenneth F. Labe, Sr.
Funeral Services for Claude will be held on Monday, March 7, 2022 at 11:00 am at Bern Reformed UCC, 3196 Bernville Rd, Leesport. A viewing will be held from 10:00 am until time of services at the church. Burial will follow in Bern Cemetery.
