David C. Houck, 86, of Blandon, passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 7, 2021, at Penn State Health, St. Joseph Medical Center, Bern Township, PA.
Born August 11, 1934, in Boyertown, PA, he was the son of the late Clyde H. and Edna S. (Nester) Houck. He and his wife of 61 years, Arlene C. (Gehman) Houck, were married on April 2, 1960, in Niantic Lutheran Church.
David served his country honorably and faithfully as a Specialist in the United States Army, where he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal.
David worked as a production scheduler for Glidden ICI Paints, Reading, for 41 years, retiring in 1995. He served as the Smiles Program Coordinator for the Fleetwood Area School District, stepping down in May of this year after 24 years of service.
David was a longtime member of Maidencreek Church, Blandon. He served on church council, the shared ministry board and was the treasurer of the Blandon Union Sunday School for 25 years. He also served as president of the Andrew Maier PTA and was a Cub Master with the Blandon Cub Scout Pack 183. David loved southern gospel music and enjoyed attending many local concerts.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Arlene, are his children, Debra L. (Houck) Trate, widow of Fred Trate, and current partner of Grant Miles, Huachuca City, AZ, Daniel R. Houck, Temple, and Susan C. (Houck) Ludwig, wife of David C. Ludwig, Fleetwood. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Michael and Jason Berry and Tyler Ludwig, and by his great-grandchildren, Lucas Berry and Sakura Gehman.
Viewings for David will be held on Friday evening, August 13, 2021, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and Saturday, August 14, 2021, from 9:30 to 10:30 am at Walbert Funeral Home & Cremation Services, PC, 14390 Kutztown Rd, Fleetwood.
David's funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2021, at 10:30 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Boyertown.
