Dennis B. Schaeffer

Dennis B. Schaeffer, 79, of Rockland Township, passed away on Monday, April 17, 2017 at Kutztown Manor, Kutztown, PA.

Born September 24, 1937 in Rockland Township, Dennis was the son of the late Walter A. and Grace M. (Angstadt) Schaeffer. He and his wife of 58 years, Violet M. (Hixson) Schaeffer, were married on March 1, 1959 at New Jerusalem UCC, Fleetwood.

Dennis graduated from Kutztown Area High School in 1955. Thereafter, he worked for 28 years for Caloric Corporation and then 14 years for East Penn Manufacturing Co, Inc., Lyons. Dennis was a member of New Jerusalem UCC, Fleetwood, where he served on church consistory for over 25 years. He also served as financial secretary for the church and mowed the church lawn.

Dennis was a member of the Kutztown Jaycees and served as chairman of the Kutztown Halloween Parade. He volunteered for many years for the Topton Fire Company and Topton Ambulance. He also worked selling admission tickets for the Kutztown Folk Festival for 20 years.

Dennis truly enjoyed working outside and mowing grass. He was also an avid Boston Red Sox fan.

Surviving, in addition to Dennis' wife Violet, are his three children: Jill R. (Schaeffer) Shade, wife of Vern H. Shade, Breinigsville; Jeffrey A. Schaeffer, husband of Sherri A. (Pavlick) Schaeffer, Topton; and Jay S. Schaeffer, Stevens, PA. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Katie, Matthew, and Jasie, and his step-grandchildren, Brandi and Robert.

In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his brother, Marvin Schaeffer.

Funeral services for Dennis will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 11:00 am at Walbert Funeral Home & Cremation Services, PC, 14390 Kutztown Rd, Fleetwood, with Rev. Corrine R. Dautrich officiating. Burial will follow in New Jerusalem Cemetery, Rockland Twp. A viewing will be held Saturday from 9:00 to 11:00 am at the funeral home.
