Douglas A. Zettlemoyer, 74, of Kempton, passed away, surrounded by his loving family, one day shy of his 75th birthday, on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at Tower Health, Reading Hospital, West Reading, PA.
Born December 1, 1947 in Lenhartsville, he was the son of the late Warren and Laila (George) Zettlemoyer. He and the love of his life, his wife of 56 years, Susan Jean (Lutz) Zettlemoyer, were married in New Bethel UCC Church, Kempton, on June 25, 1966.
Douglas worked for over 50 years as a butcher at Peter Brothers Meats, Lenhartsville. He graduated from Kutztown High School in 1965 and was a longtime member of New Bethel UCC Church where he served on church council and as a deacon. Douglas loved chicken farming, gardening and flowers, especially gladiolas and tulips, and most of all, his favorite doggy, his black lab, Laila Mae, and their trips to McDonald's.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Susan Jean, are his children, Amy Beth (Zettlemoyer) Aulenbach, wife of Michael D. Aulenbach, Lenhartsville, and Peter A. Zettlemoyer, husband of LeAnne L. (Stettler) Zettlemoyer, Kempton. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Zachary and his wife, Katy, Emily, Reuben, Asher and Leah, his great-grandchildren, Keira and Kora, and by his sister, Eleanor Dietrich, widow of Carl Dietrich, Shoemakersville.
Along with his parents, Douglas was preceded in death by his brother, Richard "Zip" Zettlemoyer.
Memorial Services for Douglas will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at 7:00 pm at Walbert Funeral Home & Crematory, 14390 Kutztown Rd, Fleetwood, PA with Rev. Robert Ziehmer, officiating. A visitation will be held Tuesday from 5:00 pm until time of services at the funeral home.
