Mrs. Eleanor C. (Reed) Merkel

Mrs. Eleanor C. (Reed) Merkel, 82, of Kutztown, passed away at her home, surrounded by her family, on Thursday, July 13, 2023.

Born October 31, 1940 in Fleetwood, she was the daughter of the late Clayton S. and Katie L. (Boyer) Reed.

Eleanor had worked for Met-Ed and St. John's Lutheran Church, Kutztown. She was a member of Zion's Union Church, Maxatawny and a 1958 graduate of Fleetwood Area High School.

Eleanor is survived by husband, David E. Merkel, children, Danielle K. Berger, wife of Troy A. Berger, Matthew S. Reed, husband of Gretchen M. Reed, 3 granddaughters, Katie, Mikayla, and Maya Reed, whom she adored, 3 step-children, Christopher, Jodi and Jacki, 4 step-grandchildren, 3 step-great-grandchildren, and brother, Clayton Reed, husband of Mary Reed.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Joan.

Services for Eleanor will be private.
