Fern M. Schlegel

Fern M. (Ruff) Schlegel, 84, of Reading, passed away on Friday, December 15, 2017 at home.

Born February 22, 1933 in Fogelsville, she was the daughter of the late Lenus and Luella Ruff.

Fern was a seamstress for many years. She had also done cleaning at the Blair Creek Inn and spend time working at Publix in Florida and as a bus driver's aide. She was a member of Salem Bible Church, Macungie and Woodsmen of the World. She loved sewing, bird watching and walking.

Fern is survived by her children, Roland C. Delong, Mertztown, Earl W. DeLong, husband of Heidi (Linsenbigler) DeLong, Barto, Linda K. (DeLong) Reinhart, wife of Thomas R. Reinhart, Boyertown and Dennis J. DeLong, husband of Kim (Soeltner) DeLong, Kincheloe, Michigan. She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Fern was preceded in death by her two husbands, Edwin P. DeLong on October 10, 1995 and Earl O. Schlegel on April 24, 2016 and by several brothers and sisters.

A private funeral service will be held for Fern by her family. Burial will take place in Longswamp Union Cemetery, Mertztown.
