George I. Allmendinger, 78, of Elizabethtown, passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Lancaster General Hospital.
Born May 12, 1945, in Boyertown, George was the son of the late Helen M. (Mauer) and Ernst F. Allmendinger. His wife of 39 years, Nellie E. (Keyser) Allmendinger, passed away on January 7, 2022.
George served his country honorably and faithfully as a specialist in the United States Army, serving in Korea from 1965 to 1967.
George was a 1963 graduate of Boyertown High School and went on to work as a mechanic at Boyertown Packaging for 37 years. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Boyertown and Teutonia Lodge #367, F & AM, West Reading. He was an honorary member of the Reading Liederkranz, a member of GTV Edelweiss Schuplatter Group, and a life member of the Pike Township Sportsman's Association. He truly enjoyed fishing, hunting, and making pinecone trees.
George is survived by his two children, Karl I. Allmendinger, West Lawn, and Heidi A. (Allmendinger) Orth, wife of Brian R. Orth, Jr., Blandon. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Tristan, Grace, Kamille and Noah, his stepchildren, Barbara, Gary, Patti, Glenn and Sharon, and by his many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents and his wife, Nellie, George was preceded in death by his brothers, Karl Fritz Allmendinger, John E. Allmendinger, and Martin E. Allmendinger, and by his stepson, Brian.
Funeral Services for George will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at 10:00 am at Walbert Funeral Home & Crematory, 14390 Kutztown Rd, Fleetwood. Burial will take place privately in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
Visitations for George will be held on Tuesday evening, December 19, 2023, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and again on Wednesday morning, December 20, 2023 from 9:00 to 10:00 am at the funeral home. A Masonic Service will be held Tuesday evening at 7:30 pm at the funeral home.
