Irwin D. "Junior" Behm, 82, of Mertztown, passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born July 25, 1933 in Longswamp Twp, he was a son of the late Irwin A. Behm and Edna (Grim) Behm-Bortz. He and his wife, Alice E. (Long) Behm, were married on September 26, 1964 in Kempton and celebrated their 51st anniversary in 2015.
Irwin worked at Caloric Corporation, Topton, for over 40 years, working as an Enamel Controller. He also spent many years working at Kistler's Butcher Shop, New Smithville and Gehris Butcher Shop, Topton.
Irwin was active with the Topton Fire Company for many years, was a founding member of the Topton Fish & Game, a member of the Pike Township Sportsman's Association, the Kempton Rod & Gun Club, a lifetime member of the Nimrod Fish and Wildlife Association and the American Legion, Ray A. Master Post 217, Topton. He served our country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. During his Army service, he was one of the original members of the company of soldiers that went on to become the Green Berets. Irwin was also an avid hunter and fisherman.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Alice, are three daughters, Beverly B. (Behm) Shirk, Kutztown, Amelia L. (Behm) Bennett, wife of David Bennett, Sonoma, CA and Joline E. (Behm) Cerullo, wife of Allen Cerullo, Topton. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kristopher, London, Simon and Rosalyn, his great-grandchildren, Bailey, Autumn and Shaun, his siblings, Faye A. Stoudt, wife of the late Marvin Stoudt, Topton, Nevin M. Behm, husband of LaRue Behm, Mertztown, Carol S. Turner, wife of Barry Turner, Allentown, Doris E. Krick, wife of the late Michael, Topton and Diane M. Grim, wife of Dennis Grim, Mertztown. He is also survived by many special Nephews and Nieces who always called him Uncle Junior.
In addition to his parents, Irwin was preceded in death by a Sister, Lois M. (Behm) Boone, wife of John Boone, Bowers.
Funeral Services for Irwin will be held on Monday, January 11, 2016 at 10 am at Walbert Funeral Home & Cremation Services, PC, 14390 Kutztown Rd, Fleetwood, with Elder Norman Grim officiating. Burial will follow in New Bethel Cemetery, Albany Township. Viewings will be held on Sunday, January 10 from 6 to 8 pm and again on Monday, January 11 from 9 to 10 am at the funeral home.
