Mrs. Janet H. (Hoffecker) Moyer

December 28, 1935 — November 4, 2022

The Lord welcomed Janet Hoffecker Moyer, age 86, to her heavenly home on Friday, November 4, 2022 following many years of suffering from dementia. Janet and her husband, Howard J. Moyer, shared 64 years of marriage and first met each other in first grade. She was a resident at Frederick Living, Zieglerville, PA for almost the last 4 years.

She was born on December 28, 1935 to Julia E. (Behle) and Leonard Y. Hoffecker.

Janet graduated as valedictorian from North Coventry High School in 1953. She attended West Chester State Teachers College graduating with honors and a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. Her first teaching position was in the Pottstown School District. A few years later she taught in Plainfield, New Jersey while her husband attended Rutgers University.

One year later they returned to Pennsylvania and she became a mother to their son, Scott H. Moyer, husband of Annette Q. Moyer, Gilbertsville and fifty-three weeks later she became a mother to their daughter Brenda Rath of Gilbertsville. She was a stay -at- home mother until both children were in school full time at which time she returned to teaching at the New Hanover Upper Frederick Elementary school in the Boyertown Area School District. She taught kindergarten there for over twenty years where she was a beloved teacher by her pupils and parents. After her retirement, she volunteered as a preschool story hour storyteller at the Pottstown Public Library.

In addition to her husband and children she is survived by four grandchildren: Zachary Rath, Sean Rath, Alex Moyer, and Julia Moyer. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Marian M. Bilger, widow of Frederic A. Bilger, Pottstown, brother-in-law Joseph M. Moyer and his wife, Carole Ann (Wertz), Pottstown, and sister-in-law Claire Hoffecker, Knoxville, Tennessee, widow of Carl T. Hoffecker. She is also survived by several nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother Carl Hoffecker along with brother-in-law Wayne L. Moyer and his wife Ruth Law Moyer.

She was a devout Christian, an active member of St. John's U.C.C., and until dementia began to impair her cognitive skills she sang in the adult choir at St. John's UCC Church, Birdsboro. Earlier in her life she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and directed children's cantatas. She also enjoyed attending spiritual retreats.

Fraternally, she was a member of Faith Chapter 444 of Eastern Star where she was a past worthy matron.

A celebration of life service will be at St. John's U.C.C., 57 St. John's Road on Saturday,November 12, 2022. Visitation will be from 9:30 -10:30 a.m. with the service beginning immediately thereafter followed by a luncheon in the Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Dementia Society of America (dementiasociety.org) or St. John's U. C. C., 57 St. John's Road, Birdsboro 19508.
