John C. Burger

July 7, 1956 — October 13, 2024

John C. Burger, 68, of Alburtis, passed away, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday morning, October 13, 2024 at his home.

Born July 7, 1956 in Allentown, John was the son of the late Dorothy D. (Kennedy) and Albert H. Burger. He and his wife of almost 24 years, Beverley H. (Heck) Burger, were married on October 22, 2000 in Center Square, PA.

John was an elementary school teacher for 27 years for the East Penn School District, retiring in 2012. He taught at the Alburtis, Macungie, Lower Macungie and Willow Lane Elementary Schools. John was a District Township Supervisor from 2016 to 2021 and, in his early career, worked as an environmental engineer and sales manager.

John was a member of Bethany Church, Wescosville, where he taught Sunday School and volunteered with Vacation Bible School for many years. He was a 1974 graduate of Emmaus High School and received his Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Resource Management from Pennsylvania State University, his Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from East Stroudsburg University and his Master's Degree in Elementary Education from Pennsylvania State University.

A man of deep faith, John lived his life as an example to those around him. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports and perform in recitals and concerts.

John always believed you could never have too many hands to hold. His warm smile, joyful laughter, and eternal optimism served to comfort and encourage his family and friends.

John's gift and passion was teaching. He inspired his students to love learning and his legacy lives on by the many lives he touched. He also loved to volunteer, reading books to children in the hospital and seniors in the nursing home, serving as a mentor for Big Brothers Big Sisters and working with YouthBuild.

John loved nature and being outdoors. He enjoyed running, walking, gardening, fishing, and hunting. He was an avid reader, a philosopher, an excellent tennis player and loved watching the Eagles.

John was the beloved husband of Beverley; loving father of Jonna Reynolds (Shane), Gabrielle Daley (Vincent), Jillian Bankas (Ryan), Caroline Burger, and Nathaniel Burger; adoring Grandpa of Talia, Rissa, Naphtali, Eliy, Samuel, Grace, Henry, Caleb, Coraleigh, and Paisley; former spouse of Kim Yates Accidio (Ron); cherished brother of Albert Burger (Ellen), Connie Rainier (widow of Joseph), Barbara Epting (Barry), Sandra Jennings, and Edward Burger (Joan).

Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by his daughter, Brianne G. Burger, and his half-brother, Vernon S. Miller.
