John J. Schaub

John J. Schaub, 89, of Kutztown, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2023, surrounded by his loving family, at his home.

Born June 19, 1933 in Coney Island, New York, he was the son of the late John F. and Mary P. (Lauro) Schaub. He and the love of his life, his wife of 67 years, Mary L. (McCarthy) Schaub, were married on February 5, 1955 in Brooklyn, New York.

John served his country honorably and faithfully for 12 years, first in the United States Navy and then in the United States Army during the Korean War Era.

John worked as Chief Rigger at RCA Telecommunications in New York for 30 years. He attended St. Brendan's Parochial School and went on to graduate in 1951 from James Madison High School, Brooklyn. He also attended the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn.

John and Mary moved to Pennsylvania in 1996 and soon after John came to faith in Jesus Christ Ephesians 2:8 "For by grace he was saved through faith; and not by himself, it was a gift from God." John was a member of Salem E.C. Church, Lenhartsville where he was involved in the men's bible study group. He was a former longtime member of Grace Church, Kutztown, where he was involved with the small group bible study as well as Promise Keepers. John was a firearm marksman and an artist. He also loved woodworking, landscaping and drafting.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Mary, are his five children, Jeannie (Schaub) Petruzzella, wife of Steve Petruzzella, Lindenhurst, NY, Kathleen (Schaub) Welsh, wife of Matthew C. Welsh, Kutztown, John P. Schaub, husband of Jane T. (Tyson) Schaub, Fairfax Station, VA, Richard C. Schaub, husband of Roseann J. (DePrisco) Schaub, Decatur, TX, and MaryEllen (Schaub) Erickson, wife of Kerry D. Erickson, Emmaus, PA. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Elizabeth and her husband, Dave, Matthew and his wife, Nicole, Emily and her husband, Matt, MaryKate, Stephen and his wife, Rachel, David, Alan and his wife, Jennifer, Timothy and his wife, Amy, Jessica, Johnathan, and Katherine, by his 17 great-grandchildren, and by several nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Schaub, and his sisters, Eileen Pauli and Patricia Montalbine.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held for John on Friday, January 13, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Salem E.C. Church, 2150 Old U.S. 22, Lenhartsville, PA. A visitation will be held Friday, January 13, 2023 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at the church.
