Mrs. Kay J. (Reigle) Shunk, 82, of Shoemakersville, passed away, surrounded by her loving family, on Friday, December 10, 2021, at her home.
Born May 13, 1939 in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Leroy and Helen M. (Breidegam) Reigle. She and her husband of 31 years, William D. Shunk, were married on July 19, 1990 in Las Vegas, NV.
Kay worked for NGK Metals, the former Beryllium Corporation, Temple, as an inventory clerk. She also worked for several car dealerships as a title clerk and was church secretary at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Reading. Kay was a member of Good Shepherd UCC, Church, Tuckerton and the "People Over Fifty" Senior Group, Muhlenberg Township.
Kay was a 1957 graduate of Reading High School where she was named Valedictorian of her class. She studied to be a medical secretary at Berks Technical Institute. She loved making jewelry, doing crossword puzzles, reading, watching mystery stories and Jeopardy, and, most of all, shopping.
Surviving in addition to her husband, Bill, are her children, Michael S. Haviland, Sinking Spring, and Kathleen M. (Haviland) Althouse, wife of Kenneth S. Althouse, Leesport. She is also survived by her step-children, William D. Shunk Jr., husband of Barbara Shunk, Marysville, PA, and Danielle D. Brown, wife of Kevin Brown, Texas, her step-grandchildren, Carl, Stephanie, Jesse and Bailey, her step great-grandchildren, Greyson, Kinsley, Hudson, Bella, Brenden and Aracyn, by her sisters, Carol L. Reigle, Reading and Patricia A.Sinistri, widow of Roger J. Sinistri Sr., West Wyomissing, by her two nieces, Sherry (Sinistri) Fellin and Ann Marie (Sinistri) Boyer, and by her nephew, Roger Sinistri, Jr.
Funeral Services for Kay will be held on Friday, December 17, 2021 at 11:00 am at Walbert Funeral Home & Cremation Services, PC, 14390 Kutztown Rd, Fleetwood. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton.
Viewings for Kay will be held on Thursday, December 16, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and again on Friday, December 17, from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the funeral home.
