Larry P. "Sarge" Geist, 76, of Fleetwood, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2024, in Middletown, PA.
Born June 7, 1947, in Longswamp Township, Larry was the son of the late Paul C. and Betty A. (Solt) Geist. He and his wife of 47 years, Lois A. (Kemp) Geist were married on April 30, 1976, in the offices of Mabel Blank.
Larry served his country honorably and faithfully as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, serving in Vietnam from 1965 to 1968. During his service in the Marine Corps, Larry was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained and the Vietnam Gallentry Cross with a Silver Star for his exemplary service.
Larry was a 1965 graduate of Brandywine Heights High School and upon returning from the war, worked as a draftsman for Hamerly Truck Bodies, Hamburg. Larry went on to a career in law enforcement.
Larry retired as Sergeant of the Fleetwood Borough Police Department in 2005 after a 25 year career. He had also worked as an officer for the Maidencreek Township Police Department and the Kutztown Borough Police Department. Larry also volunteered with the Reading Police Department Auxiliary. After his retirement, Larry devoted 8 years to working at the Burkholder's Pig Farm in Richmond Township. Larry was dedicated to his community and devoted to his family. In retirement, he also enjoyed building things, working outside, and tinkering in his garage.
In addition to his wife, Lois, Larry is survived by his three children, Jennifer A. (Geist) Fenstermaker, wife of Michael F. Fenstermaker, Kutztown, Cora (Haring) Young, Bridgeport, PA and Devin L. Geist, Robesonia. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Shaine, Dakota, Owen, Harrison, and Lauren, his great-grandchildren, Weston and Caleb, his brother, Dale R. Geist, husband of Brenda Geist, Mertztown, his sister, Beverly A. (Geist) Riegel, wife of Lyle Riegel, Kempton, and by several nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Larry will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Walbert Funeral Home & Crematory, 14390 Kutztown Rd, Fleetwood.
Military Honors will be rendered for Larry on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 11:00 am at the funeral home, followed by a time of sharing with his family and friends.
