Rev. Lewis H. Bollinger, 81, of S. Heidelberg Twp, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Manor Care Sinking Spring.
Born December 23, 1934 in West Reading, he was the son of the late Walter and Myrtle (Nagle) Bollinger. His wife of 37 years, Sandra A. (Patches) Bollinger passed away on July 26, 2002.
Lewis was a long time minister for the Evangelical Congregational Church serving Pennsylvania congregations in Barry, Locustdale, Pottstown, Wiconisco and Adamstown. In addition to his time in the ministry, Lewis also worked for the former J.E. Tobacco Company, Reading.
Lewis was a member of Community E.C. Church, Sinking Spring and the Reading Company Historical Society. He was Chaplain for 30 years for the Civil Air Patrol Squadron 812, Limerick. Lewis was a train fanatic and an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. He truly enjoyed his fishing trips to Canada and the Susquehanna River.
Lewis served his country faithfully and honorably as a Sergeant in the United States Army. He was a graduate of Mt. Penn High School, RACC and the Evangelical School of Theology, Myerstown.
Lewis is survived by his three children, Heather A. (Bollinger) James, wife of Joseph P. James, Birdsboro, Eric L. Bollinger, husband of Judy Bollinger, Avoca, NY and Michael L. Bollinger, Davis, CA. He is also survived by his grandchildren Laura, Joseph L., Robert, Mary, Melissa, Joshua, Marianna and Nicholas and his sisters Mary Levengood, Reading and Cecelia Oneil, Mohrsville.
Memorial Services for Lewis will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Community E.C. Church, 51 Green Valley Rd, Sinking Spring, with Rev. Michael Snedeker officiating. A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 pm Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Maidencreek Twp.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Lewis' memory to the Andrew Fund, c/o Evangelical Congregational Church Center, 100 West Park Rd, Myerstown, PA 17067 or to the Berks County Conservancy, 25 North 11th St., Reading, PA 19601.
