Mrs. Marie M. (Kahl) Shomgard

Marie M. (Kahl) Shomgard, 92, of Fleetwood, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2022 at Keystone Villa, Blandon.

Born February 25, 1930 in Newmanstown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd J. and Alva V. (Boehler) Kahl. Her husband of 62 years, Roy F. Shomgard, passed away on May 31, 2017.

Marie was a 1948 graduate of Newmanstown Area High School where she was class Valedictorian. She also was a four year member of the National Honor Society, accompanied the chorus on piano, was a flag bearer for the band front and a member of the chorus for four years.

Marie worked at Berkshire Knitting Mills as a hosiery inspector for eight years and for Western Electric in the Magnetron Lab for four years. She was a member of St. Paul's UCC Church, Fleetwood, where she served on the consistory for three years. Marie also volunteered at the voting polls at Fleetwood for six years and the Reading Fair office for four years.

Marie truly enjoyed spending time by the water. She was fond of boating, the family seashore vacations, collecting patterned glass, playing piano, reading, attending special events for her family, going to casinos, shopping and spending time with friends with whom she had longtime relationships. She also enjoyed the quiet time at home outside looking at her roses.

Marie is survived by her two children, Mark R. Shomgard, Muhlenberg Township and Lisa M. (Shomgard) Watchorn, wife of Stephen Watchorn, Muhlenberg Township. She is also survived by her granddaughters, Amanda and Natalie and by her brother, Norman Kahl, husband of Marion Kahl, Hamburg.

Along with her parents and her husband, Roy, Marie was preceded in death by her brother Lawrence Kahl and her sister, Dorothy Kahl.

Funeral Services for Marie will be held on Friday, May 27, 2022 at 11:00 am at Walbert Funeral Home & Crematory, 14390 Kutztown Rd, Fleetwood. A viewing will be held Friday from 10:00 am until time of services at the funeral home.

Following the services, Marie will be buried at Forest Hills Memorial Park alongside her dear husband, Roy.
