Richard B. Maurer

Richard B. Maurer, 76, of Coopersburg, passed away, with his family by his side, on Monday evening, September 30, 2024 at Laurel Center, Hamburg, PA.

Born November 20, 1947 in Ashland, PA, he was the son of the late Anna (Herring) and Leonard Maurer.

Richard served his country honorably and faithfully as a Private First Class in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.

Richard owned and operated Rare Breed Trucking from 1976 to 2012. He loved being in his truck and spending time on the open road. He was a member of the Motor Truck Association and umpired for little league baseball games in Southern Lehigh. Richard was a 1965 graduate of Southern Lehigh High School and truly enjoyed gambling, Nascar, and all Philadelphia sports teams. One of his favorite things to do was taking his grandchildren to Philly sporting events.

Richard is survived by his daughters, Kelly R. (Maurer) Caplinger, Fleetwood, Jessica M. Maurer, Oley, Wendy A. (Maurer) Strohl, wife of Geoffrey W. Strohl, Fleetwood, and Valarie A. (Brandt) Horvath, Allentown. He is also survived by his previous wife of 40 years, Joyce A. (Daniels) Maurer, Topton, his grandchildren, Daniel, Devon, Derek, Zachary, Alexis and her husband, Adam, Aidan and Mason, his great-grandchildren, Lily, Zaylee, and Paisley, his brother, Jeffrey Maurer, husband of Christie Maurer, Coopersburg, and by several nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his brothers, Dennis Maurer and Randall Maurer.

Services for Richard will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Walbert Funeral Home & Crematory, 14390 Kutztown Road, Fleetwood. The services will begin promptly at 2:00 pm Military Honors followed by his Memorial Service. A visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm Friday at the funeral home.
