Richard Simonsen

Richard Simonsen, 97, of Kempton, passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, PA.

Born January 5, 1922 in New York City, NY, he was the son of the late Lillian (Rinel) and Stanley Simonsen. His wife of 69 years, Frieda M. (Zabel) Simonsen, passed away on September 26, 2017.

Richard served his country honorably and faithfully as a United States Marine during World War II.

Richard was a longtime maintenance supervisor for Azo Plate, Branchburg, NJ. He was a member of the Kempton Lions Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Kutztown, camping, photography and square dancing clubs and was a past cub scout leader and electrical journeyman. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and photography.

Richard is survived by his children, Dawn D. (Simonsen) Janssen, wife of Robert J. Janssen, Cedar Springs, MI and Richard R. Simonsen, Kempton. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Anneke A. (Janssen) Polka, wife of Cory Polka, Green Oaks, IL and his great-grandchildren, Brayden and Reese.

Along with his parents and his wife, Richard was preceded in death by his sister, Patty Yunker.

Funeral Services for Richard will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lehigh Valley Hospice, 2166 S. 12th St, Allentown, PA 18103.
