Robert E. McCarty Sr., 90, of Barto, passed away, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at the Lutheran Home at Topton.
Born June 6, 1932, in Atlantic City, NJ, he was the son of the late Daniel N. and Maryon (McGill) McCarty. His wife of 64 years, Joy M. (Hawthorne) McCarty, passed away six weeks ago on March 7, 2023.
Bob served his country honorably and faithfully as a Sergent in the United States Army during the Korean War. Bob was a graduate of Northeast Catholic High School in Philadelphia and attended Pennsylvania State University where he studied sociology.
To summarize Bob's life in words is a significant honor and task. He was a wordsmith and a patriarch, a conservationist, and a patron of the arts. He had a successful career as a high-end kitchen and bath designer for over 50 years, having owned and operated Design Studio, in Linwood, New Jersey. Previous to his service in the army and his marriage to the love of his life, he spent his summers as a lifeguard on the coast of New Jersey, and in his free time found himself back down at the shore. As a designer and a published poet, he was a mentor to many future designers and writers throughout the years, as well as an esteemed peer to poets, artists, and thespians alike. He was a theater company member & supporter, a member of the Cape May Bird Conservancy, a supporter of his wife's equine career, a voracious reader, and a beloved father, uncle, and grandfather.
Bob is survived, his three children, Erin C.(McCarty) Keegan, wife of Robert J. Keegan, Mohrsville, and Justin K. McCarty, husband of Lisa (Jancke) McCarty, Telford. He is also survived by his brother, Daniel N. McCarty, Los Angeles. Additionally survived by his grandchildren, Ethan, Taylor and her husband, Nick, Katharine, Sara and her husband, Carsten, Brendan, Evan and Kieran, Colin, Amelia, and their mother Lisa Vazquez, and by his great-grandchildren, Alice, Noah, Lili, Riley, Jolene, and Asher, and by his friend and longtime caretaker Catherine Reitnauer. He was and will be eternally grateful to his dear friend and confidant Brian McGowan, Sr. and his family, Joy, Brian, Jr, and Brendan, Bryn Mawr.
Along with his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his brother Lawrence R. McCarty, and by his son, Daniel N. McCarty.
Services for Bob will be announced at a later date.
