Robert W. Walter, 81, of Shoemakersville, passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at his home in the presence of his loving family.
Born December 24, 1939 in Johnson City, New York, he was the son of the late William J. and Winnie F. (Smith) Walter. He and the love of his life, his wife of 54 years, Jeanne C. (Holtz) Walter, were married on October 22, 1966 at the High Falls Dutch Reformed Church, High Falls, NY.
Robert served his country honorably and faithfully as a member of the United States Army having ended his service during the Vietnam War.
Robert worked as an outpatient clerk at the Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, for 25 years. He also worked in the clerk's office at Gulf Oil in Johnson City and Syracuse, NY, was a caretaker at Duck Harbor Farms and managed the logging facility for the Worth Bat Company, Whitney Point, NY.
Robert was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Shoemakersville, the National Rifle Association and a member of the Marathon (NY) Pistol Club. He was a Master Shooter having achieved 3 perfect scores. Robert was a 1957 graduate of Whitney Point High School and attended Broome Community College. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading, doing crossword puzzles and, especially, square dancing with Jeanne.
In addition to his wife, Jeanne, Robert is survived by his daughter, Karen A. (Walter) Sahaydak, wife of Walter C. Sahaydak, Fleetwood, his grandchildren, Julian R. Sahaydak and Frederick W. Sahaydak and by his doggies, Abby, Scooter and Happy, who came from Kuwait.
Memorial Services for Robert will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 11:00 am at Salem United Methodist Church, 605 Main St., Shoemakersville. A visitation will be held, Saturday, from 10:00 am until time of services at the church.
Burial with full military honors will take place at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA, on Monday, July 19, 2021 at 3:00 pm.
