Thomas E. Hummel

d. October 30, 2016

Thomas E. Hummel, 79, of Richmond Twp, went home to be with his Lord in the early morning hours on Sunday, October 30, 2016.

Born November 14, 1936 in Fleetwood, he was the son of the late Harry H. and Rose L. (Delong) Hummel. He and his wife of 57 years, Hedy Lou (Weidner) Hummel, were married on June 13, 1959 at Faith Bible Fellowship Church in Fleetwood.

Tom was a lifelong diesel mechanic. He worked for 22 years as a mechanic and shop foreman for New Penn Motor Express. He had also worked as a mechanic for Jesse Kroninger and Burgmeyer Brothers. Tom was a 1955 graduate of Fleetwood High School and served his country honorably in the United States Navy.

Tom was a member of Trinity Bible Fellowship Church, Blandon, where he was active with the Prime Timers. He enjoyed fishing, boating, water skiing and fixing cars. Most of all, Tom relished every moment he spent with the members and his friends at his church. In his retirement, he enjoyed meeting up with his friends at various functions, especially breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Tom truly enjoyed spending time with his family and his grandchildren. He enjoyed helping his family and friends with projects. He would often see a need and be part of the solution. Most of all, Tom was well known for being heard the loudest when cheering for his grandchildren at their sporting events.

Tom's family would especially like to thank the staff at Fleetwood Medical Center, Berks Cardiology and Hershey Medical Center Oncology Department for the compassionate care they offered to him and their family.

In addition to the love of his life, Hedy Lou, Tom is survived by his two children, Jeffrey T. Hummel, husband of Beverly A. (Shenk) Hummel, Richmond Twp and Jennifer K. (Hummel) Bossler, companion of Kent E. Wrobel, Reading. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jordan, Madison, Sarah and Justin.

Along with his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his sister, Rosemary Reppert.
