Mrs. Violet M. (Hixson) Schaeffer

Mrs. Violet M. (Hixson) Schaeffer, 84, of Fleetwood, passed away on Thursday morning, July 21, 2022 at Keystone Villa at Ephrata.

Born January 23, 1938 in Rockland Twp, she was the daughter of the late Wilson and Jennie (Boyer) Hixson. Her husband of 58 years, Dennis B. Schaeffer, passed away on April 17, 2017.

Violet was a math educator from 1967 to 1999 at Brandywine Heights School District. She also taught at Northwestern Lehigh School District from 1959-1960 and 1961-1964.

Violet was a member of The Real Church and the former New Jerusalem UCC Church, Rockland Twp. She was on consistory for over 15 years and also served as secretary. She graduated from Kutztown Area High School in 1955 and received her bachelor's degree from Kutztown State Teachers College in 1959.

During her summers "off" from teaching and after her retirement in 1999, Violet enjoyed traveling with Dennis and spending time with their grandchildren. For several years, she tutored elementary school students. Violet loved the many flowers, especially the daylilies, that dotted her gardens. She always looked forward to connecting with her classmates at their reunions, her fellow retired teachers at their monthly get-togethers, and the Hixson family at the annual reunions and throughout the year.

Violet is survived by her children, Jill R. (Schaeffer) Shade, wife of Vern H. Shade, Breinigsville, Jeffrey A. Schaeffer, husband of Sherri A. (Pavlick) Schaeffer, Topton, and Jay S. Schaeffer, husband of Jill B. (Boone) Schaeffer, Stevens, PA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Katie, Matthew and Jasie, and by her step-grandchildren, Brandi, Robert, Megan and Joel.

Along with her parents and her husband, Dennis, Violet was preceded in death by her 6 sisters, Pauline, Miriam, Anna, Dorothy, Catharine and Evelyn, and by her brother, Wilson.

Funeral Services for Violet will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at 11:00 am at Walbert Funeral Home & Crematory, 14390 Kutztown Rd, Fleetwood. Burial will follow in New Jerusalem Cemetery, Fleetwood. A viewing will be held Wednesday from 9:00 to 11:00 am at the funeral home.
