William D. Shunk Sr.

William D. Shunk Sr., 87, of Shoemakersville, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, in Shillington, PA.

Born October 29, 1936, in Reading, Bill was the son of the late Helen V. (Horn) and William W. Shunk. His wife of 31 years, Mrs. Kay J. (Reigle) Shunk, passed away on December 10, 2021.

Bill served his country honorably and faithfully as a Specialist (5) in the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War.

Bill worked as a clerk at the Larson Supply Company before going on to work for NGK Metals for 44 years. The positions Bill held while at NGK were shipping and receiving clerk, production control specialist, inventory control foreman, production manager and shipping manager.

Bill was a 1954 graduate of Reading High School and a member of Good Shepherd UCC Church, Tuckerton, and loved singing. He was involved in the Reading Pretzel City Chorus, the "People Over Fifty", and especially enjoyed singing in several quartets, including, Seque, Harmony Street, Second Take, Around Town, and Berks Harmony. Bill also enjoyed gambling and going to casinos.

Bill is survived by his children, W. David Shunk, Jr., husband of Barbara Shunk, Marysville, PA, and Danielle D. (Shunk) Brown, wife of Kevin R. Brown, Shoemakersville, his step-children, Michael S. Haviland, Sinking Spring, and Kathleen M. (Haviland) Althouse, wife of Kenneth S. Althouse, Leesport, his grandchildren, Joseph, Stephanie and Jesse, his great-grandchildren, Greyson, Kinsley, Hudson, Brenden, Bella and Avacyn, his sister-in-law, Patricia Sinistri, widow of Roger Sinistri, West Lawn, and by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Bill will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at 10:00 am at Walbert Funeral Home & Crematory, 14390 Kutztown Rd, Fleetwood. Burial with military honors provided by the United States Army and the Ray A. Master Post 217, American Legion Honor Guard, Topton, will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton.

Viewings for Bill will be held on Wednesday evening, May 29, 2024 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and again on Thursday morning, May 30, 2024 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, both at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 1999, Memphis, TN, 38101 or to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 3551 N. Broad St, Philadelphia, PA 19140.
