Obituary of William Paterson
William G. Paterson (91) of Lyons, passed away on June 13 in the Lehigh Valley Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born in Scranton on May 20, 1927, the son of the late W. Gordon Paterson and Mae (Dunstone) Paterson Warnke.
Bill was a Navy veteran of World War Two and the Korean War.
He graduated from the University of Scranton with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Accounting. After graduating, he worked for Household Finance Company in the Mid Atlantic Region. He later became a Supervisor for Standard Equity Corporation in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. The company was later purchased by the Horrigan Company who he worked for until his retirement.
After retirement, he and his wife moved to San Diego, California and later to Bonita Springs, Florida before returning to their Lyons home in 2014.
In the Kutztown region, Bill volunteered his time in many local community sports programs. He assisted the East Penn Chargers football team from 1970-1975, coached Kutztown Little League baseball teams, and the Kutztown Wrestling program. He had great admiration for the men and women who contributed their personal time to youth sports programs. He was a longtime fan of the New York Yankees and the Philadelphia Eagles.
Bill is survived by his wife, Doris M. (Rust) Paterson, two sons Patrick J., husband of Emily (Rodgers) of Alexandria, Virginia, Jeffrey M., companion of Leslie Sonday of Lyons PA, and two grandsons, Parker and Bennett Paterson.
He was predeceased by his son, Michael T. Paterson on September 9, 1987, and a brother Thomas J. Paterson.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Lehigh Valley Hospice who provided great comfort to Bill.
Memorial services for Bill will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Walbert Funeral Home & Cremation Services, PC, 14390 Kutztown Road, Fleetwood. A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the funeral home followed by US Navy Military Honors being rendered to Bill by the US Navy and the Honor Guard of the American Legion, Ray A. Master Post 217, Topton, beginning at 11:00 am. Immediately following the military honors, a memorial service will be held for Bill at the funeral home.
